Our dealership attracts customers from all sorts of cities and areas surrounding Spartanburg, SC. One of these cities happens to be Inman, SC. Totaling around 2,000 people, the town is located in Spartanburg County, very close to the Spartanburg-Greenville-Asheville metroplex, and is accessible via Interstate 26 and Interstate 85. Textile mills and railroads can both be held responsible for the birth of Inman. Back in the mid-1870s, landowner William Goens gave a tract of his over 140 acres of land to a rail line free of charge so they could build a depot on it. The rail line made the depot and the small retail district that took shape around it prosperous. Initially, Goens was going to name the town Gowensville (based on a later spelling of his name), but a town by that name already existed close by, so he instead named it Inman, supposedly after a Southern Railway railroad executive named John Hamilton Inman. The early 1900s saw the town become a textile center thanks to Inman Mills, one of the largest textile plants in the county and one that still exists in a smaller incarnation today. Today, Inman is a popular spot for new housing developments. The town calls itself the "Peach Capital of the World" due to the fact that their peach farmers once teamed up and shipped out all their peaches on a single day, allowing them to ship more peaches than the entirety of "The Peach State" (Georgia) for that one day.
